White Ribbon Campaign Forum ( 6:30PM - 8:00PM )

Location: Bingham 103

A broad coalition of student organizations and other units are hosting a White Ribbon Campaign at UNC to recruit male allies and raise awareness about sexual assault. During this week-long campaign, students will be asking other students to sign pledges never to “commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women and girls.” Upon signing, individuals will receive a white ribbon to wear from November to January to signify their commitment to the pledge. The week of campaigning will culminate in a forum of professionals and student leaders. Through this dialogue, we hope to raise awareness about sexual assault, violence prevention, and men’s roles as advocates against sexism and men’s violence.

Panelists include Bob Pleasants, Bret Biance, Steven Quintero, Terrence Wilson, Anthony Maglione, Tobirus Newby, Melinda Manning, Terri Phoenix, Demi Brown, Corey Frost and Eric Stam. Co-sponsored by Counseling and Wellness Services, the Carolina Women’s Center, Men@Carolina, Feminist Students United, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Project Dinah, GOLD-n-LOVE, and the Student Body Safety Committee.

Climate Change: The Ultimate Threat Multiplier ( 7:00PM - 9:00PM )

Location: Friday Center for Continuing Education

"Climate Change: The Ultimate Threat Multiplier" offers a compelling look at the impact of climate change on national security and geo-political stability. The event features two powerful films that starkly illustrate the daily consequences and long term implications of unabated climate change. From the most resource deficient communities in the world to the most powerful military force in history, these films demonstrate that no corner of the world lives beyond the reach of climate change. The event concludes with a panel discussion featuring UNC and national experts who will further examine the relationship between climate change, national security, and geo-political stability and what it means for us.

"Climate Change: The Ultimate Threat Multiplier" is produced in conjunction with the Friday Center's "What's the Big Idea?" lecture series and in partnership with the UNC Institute for the Environment, the UNC Center for Global Initiatives, the UNC Center on Poverty, Work, and Opportunity, and the Carolina Women's Center.
