HAVEN Training

HAVEN Program

HAVEN LogoThe HAVEN Program is a campus-wide initiative to increase support for student survivors of sexual violence, abusive relationships, and stalking, and to further the universities’ efforts to prevent interpersonal violence. Students, faculty, and staff may attend a four-hour HAVEN training session and then receive a sign for their door or laptop which indicates that they are a safe space to go to discuss issues around interpersonal violence. HAVEN is a collaboration between the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling & Wellness, and the Carolina Women’s Center.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long is the training? What if I can’t stay for the whole thing?

HAVEN trainings are four hours long. Participants are required to arrive on time and stay for the entire training. We have found that participants coming late/leaving early is very disruptive to others in the training.

Q: How do I register?

Follow this link to the registration page to sign up for a training. If none are available, please check back later for more openings. Trainings are announced each semester.

Q: Those training times span my usual lunch/dinner hour! Will there be food?

We provide refreshments during breaks when possible (budget allowing). You will be notified when you register whether or not we will be able to provide food. We want you to be comfortable, so feel free to bring a snack and drink if you need them!

Q: No location is listed for my training date. How will I know where to go?

You will be notified of the training location when you receive your registration confirmation.

Q: Is HAVEN for women only?

No, our trainings are for everyone. All genders are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Q: I am a graduate student. Do I attend the student training or the faculty/staff training?

We frequently offer trainings especially for graduate students, recognizing the unique role you play as students and teachers. If you do not see a grad student date listed, you can choose to attend the student OR faculty/staff training.

Q: I completed HAVEN training but have lost / have not yet received my door sign. Who should I contact?

If you have questions about your door sign, send an email to haven@unc.edu.
