Programs

Our programs are the public face of the CWC and a visible way that we demonstrate our commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equity. We take a collaborative approach to planning events that are aligned with the university’s teaching, research, and public service mission.

One-Time Events

Our monthly programming includes a diverse selection of speakers, workshops, screenings, discussions, and performances sponsored and co-sponsored by the CWC. Ongoing Programs

The CWC sponsors/supports a range of ongoing trainings and program series, including the following:

HAVEN

Workshops for faculty, staff, and students who want to become informed allies for survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and relationship violence. HAVEN trainings cover statistics and prevalence of violence in university settings, as well as how to be supportive and resources that are available on campus and in the community to address survivors’ needs and concerns. Participants leave this three-hour training with valuable knowledge about how to make referrals and provide support, and those who take the HAVEN pledge are provided with a door sign indicating that they are a safe person to talk to about sexual assault and relationship violence. Trainings are offered 1-2 times per semester for faculty and staff and 3-4 times per semester for students. HAVEN is a collaboration through the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office, Dean of Students, Student Wellness, and the CWC.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting @ UNC

Informal orientation and information for expectant employees, students, and postdoctoral fellows. The discussion addresses resources on campus, including lactation rooms; finding and paying for childcare;  academic and career concerns; and where to find support on campus. What to Expect When You’re Expecting complements HR’s “Planning for Parental Leave,” which focuses on leave policies and benefits. Register for the course through ConnectCarolina. Parenting@UNC includes resources and information about childcare and eldercare.
